Summer Project 2011 - Student Accommodation

Role Description:

This is a short-term project based in York dealing with a mixture of student properties (all furnished, variety of sizes), checking out tenants and checking in new tenants.  We have been providing these services successfully for the last 3 years for a couple of letting agents.  We're on the look out for another great team of people to help with this project over a concentrated 3 week period in June/July.  Due to the volume of staff we need to recruit, we use a recruitment agency Reed Employment to manage pay and timesheets etc. 

Check Out role:

  • Visiting properties and assessing them against a number of criteria including cleanliness, maintenance and state of wear and tear.
  • The inventory for the property needs to be checked thoroughly and amended where necessary and meter readings taken.
  • All maintenance and cleaning issues need to be clearly and concisely documented/recorded.
  • Video evidence needs to be taken to highlight any discrepancies/issues.
  • All documentation needs to be presented back to the office for final assessment.

Check In role:

New tenants need to be checked into the same properties several days later. This role includes:

  • Meeting and welcoming the tenants at each property (working to an agreed timing schedule).
  • Checking the property throughout and taking video evidence in all rooms.
  • Taking meter readings and informing the tenants of all the health and safety regulations.
  • Presenting the welcome pack, inventory and sets of keys for the property and obtaining tenants signatures.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Previous lettings/property experience preferred but not essential.
  • Efficient, well-organised with good time-keeping.
  • Meticulous with strong attention to detail essential.
  • Flexible approach to change – able to work under pressure. (Key for Check-in)
  • Personable, presentable and diplomatic. (Key for Check-in)
  • Strong customer service skills. (Key for Check-in)
  • Good concise communicator – verbal and written. (Key for Check-out)
  • Trustworthy and reliable.
  • Own car and mobile phone.
